Activity TitleWHY GUIDELINES ON TETANUS VACCINATION IN PREGNANCY SHOULD BE REVIEWED
DetailsNeonatal mortality due to tetanus remains a cause of preventable mortality in Uganda despite the 81% TD vaccination coverage. • It is a silent killer : WHO 2019 • The efficiency of antibody transfer is low until 32-34 WOA (Chu & Englund, 2014) • Maternal antibodies are estimated to wane within a year. (Liang et al., 2018) • Uganda’s 2022 maternal Td vaccination guidelines contradict the other guidelines which recommend vaccination between 27-36WOA. • To sustain the elimination, there in need to improve the current practices. • We aimed to determine prevalence and factors associated with transfer of protective levels of anti-tetanus antibodies among newborns.
