DetailsThis session is designed to help you gain a better understanding of surface anatomy relevant to everyday anaesthetic procedures such as central venous access and brachial plexus blockade. Objectives By the end of this session you will be able to: • Show that the neck is divided anatomically into a number of triangles • Locate the parts of sternocleidomastoid (SCM), trapezius and the scalene muscles and the clavicles • Define the course of the carotid, subclavian, axillary and jugular vessels relative to these structures and the airway • Describe the course of the cervical plexus • Describe how the parts of the brachial plexus relate to surface markings in the region • Explain complications of procedures to access these structures resulting from the close proximity of other structures
