Details | Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a major cause of avoidable death and is a significant international patient safety issue. An important element of preventing VTE is the national strategy to assess all patients for their risk of VTE on admission to hospital.
Course Objectives
1. Explain the pathophysiology of how VTE develops
2. List common risk factors which predispose patients to VTE
3. Describe strategies that can be employed to prevent VTE when patients are hospitalised
4. Explain how the risk assessment process works in practice
5. Outline the role of different members of the multidisciplinary team in preventing VTE |
