Details | CME Introduction: Lung Cancer in East Africa and Its Relationship with HIV-1 Infection
Lung cancer is emerging as a significant health concern in East Africa, with a complex interplay between environmental, genetic, and infectious factors. Among these, HIV-1 infection plays a crucial role, contributing to increased susceptibility due to immunosuppression, chronic inflammation, and co-exposure to risk factors like smoking and tuberculosis. This session will explore the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and unique challenges of diagnosing and managing lung cancer in HIV-1 patients in East Africa. Emphasis will be placed on the impact of antiretroviral therapy, access to screening, and tailored treatment approaches for this dual burden. Understanding this relationship is critical to improving outcomes in this vulnerable population.
