Details | 1-Background
The Directorate of Police Health Services is mandated to provide Medico-legal services in support of administration of justice. This requires medical evidence and one way of achieving this is by conducting Postmortem examinations and presenting expert evidence in courts of law. A larger proportion of this work is being performed by the Doctors in the mainstream Health Sector and it has being realized the quality of the work is not to the required standards to secure successful prosecution. In order to address this gap, there has been periodic capacity building training of Doctors in the upcountry Hospitals.
2- Objective
• To conduct “hands on” skills training of Drs in Postmortem examinations and techniques

• 5- Participants from Kole, Amolatar, Lira , Kwania, and Apac

• Lectures
• Questions and discussions
• Practical demonstration
• Return demonstrations
• Sharing of experiences
5- The training took four days (22nd to 25th August 2023) and covered the below areas,
• Postmortem techniques
• Record keeping
• Certification of death (Writing Death certificates)
• Postmortem report writing
• Handling problem cases that, included sudden deaths, drowning, decomposing bodies, poisoning, asphyxia deaths, gunshot injuries, examinations of fetuses/newborns and court procedures
• Court procedures
