Activity TitleCPD about Diabetic melitus in pregnancy
DetailsDiabetes Mellitus in pregnancy (both pre-existing and gestational diabetes) poses significant health risks to both the mother and the baby. Complications such as preeclampsia, macrosomia, and neonatal hypoglycaemia are common if the condition is not well managed. With an increasing number of pregnant women presenting with risk factors such as obesity and family history of diabetes, it is crucial for health workers to have updated knowledge and skills for early detection and proper management. Hamurwa HCIV provides comprehensive maternal and child health services and therefore plays a key role in early screening, diagnosis, and management of diabetes during pregnancy. The purpose of this session was to refresh and update staff knowledge on the pathophysiology and classification of diabetes mellitus in pregnancy as well as discussing the screening protocols and diagnostic criteria for gestational diabetes.
