Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is a chronic genetic disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of acute complications that can be life-threatening if not managed promptly and effectively. These complications, including vaso-occlusive crises, acute chest syndrome, stroke, severe anemia, and infections, require timely intervention to prevent morbidity and mortality.
This Continuing Medical Education (CME) session will focus on the recognition and management of acute complications of SCD. We will discuss pathophysiology, early warning signs, evidence-based treatment strategies, pain management, transfusion therapy, infection control, and supportive care.
