The Directorate of Police Health Services is mandated to provide Medico-legal services in administration of justice among other services. Following the annual Police Drs meetings, a training need was identified in the area of postmortem examinations, case management and report writing. As a result there has been periodic training of Police Surgeons and up country Drs to address this areas
Objective
• To train Drs /Morticians in Postmortem examinations /techniques, cases and record management
Participants
Doctors from the Greater Busenyi Region (Districts of Mitooma, Sheema, Rukungiri and Buhweju)
Training contents
• Postmortem techniques
• Mortuary management in general, Receiving and handing over of bodies, Mortuary hygiene/universal infection control/prevention measures, body handling, dissection of bodies, and equipment mantainance ( Morticians)
• Record keeping
• Postmortem report writting ( Only for Drs)
• Handling problem cases that, included sudden deaths, drowning, burns, decomposing bodies, poisoning, asphyxia deaths, Gunshot injuries etc ( Only for Drs)
