Description
Good nutrition and nutrition-related behaviours are critical for a child’s healthy growth, development and survival. Malnutrition (both undernutrition and overnutrition) can be prevented and managed, and you can contribute to better outcomes for your patients through supporting improved nutrition knowledge and practice in health facilities and in the community.
This course is part of a series developed by The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Canada as part of the TOGETHER project which is funded by Global Affairs Canada. The course aims to equip healthcare workers in Kenya and Uganda with foundational nutrition knowledge and practical skills through interactive content and case studies.
Objectives
After completing this learning path you will be able to:
1. Outline the foundational concepts in nutrition, and describe the relationship between these concepts and health outcomes for infants, children, adolescents, and women of reproductive age.
2. Demonstrate skills required for assessing and guiding good nutrition in children infants, children, adolescents, and women of reproductive age.
3. Describe the management of nutrition issues and malnutrition in children infants, children, adolescents, and women of reproductive age.
4. Explain the importance of intersectoral aspects of nutrition, including water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and gender, and the impact of these on the health and nutritional status of children and families. |
