Details2- Activity Title Postmortem examination training for Doctors 3- Description The Directorate of Police Health Services is mandated to provide Medico-legal services in administration of justice among other services. This requires medical evidence and one way of achieving this is by conducting Postmortem examinations and presenting expert evidence in courts of law. A larger proportion of this work is being performed by the Doctors in the mainstream Health Sector and it has being realized the quality of the work is not to the required standards to secure successful prosecution. In order to address this gap, there has been periodic capacity building training of Doctors in the upcountry Hospitals. Objective • To train Drs /Morticians in Postmortem examinations /techniques, cases and record management Participants Doctors from the Busoga and Bugisu Regions ( Buyende, Kamuli, Luuka, Kaliro, Iganga, Muyege, Bugiri and Namisindwa) Training contents • Postmortem techniques • Mortuary management in general • Record keeping • Certification of deaths ( Writing of Death certificates) • Postmortem report writing ( Only for Drs) • Handling problem cases that, included sudden deaths, drowning, burns, decomposing bodies, poisoning, asphyxia deaths, Gunshot injuries etc ( Only for Drs) • Court procedures Training period 31ST May, 2023 to 03rd June ,2023
