Details | Periodontitis is defined as a chronic, progressive inflammatory disease affecting the periodontium surrounding the tooth. It eventually results in deterioration of the tooth-supporting apparatus and may result in tooth loss if untreated. Periodontal diseases, as well as dental caries, are considered the most widespread oral diseases worldwide. Periodontal diseases have been linked to increased incidence of multiple systemic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, metabolic diseases, possible complications of pregnancy, rheumatoid arthritis, respiratory diseases and kidney diseases.
