DetailsThis session defines the mortality rate for patients admitted to ICUs in the UK and discusses important aspects of severity of illness scoring systems that are applied to this population. This session also looks at the longer-term non-mortality outcomes experienced by ICU survivors such as overall health-related quality of life, physical and psychological outcomes and how to assess them accurately. Objectives By the end of this session you will be able to: List the commonly used scoring systems together with their uses and limitations for patients admitted to ICU List the major non-mortality outcome measures for ICU survivors Summarize the concept of health-related quality of life Describe the medium-term and longer-term physical sequelae of critical illness Describe the medium-term and longer-term psychological sequelae of critical illness
