| Details | This course is suitable for all providers of obstetric surgery. Recognising that there is more to safe surgical care that the surgical procedure itself, the course leads the participant on a journey starting with good labour ward management and decision-making, surgical and anaesthetic preparation for safe surgery, best practice in theatre through to the immediate recovery period and post-natal care following obstetric surgery.
Complex caesarean sections and the prevention, early detection and management of complications following surgery are key features. Assisted vaginal birth and obstetric anal sphincter injury management are incorporated and communication skills with both the service users and the clinical team are emphasised throughout.
Learning outcomes of the course:
This course, while suitable to be completed as a stand-alone course, was created as the first section of a three-part course, to include on-line discussion groups and a face-to-face practical skills training in advanced Obstetric Surgical and anaesthetic skills.
Participants will learn the theory behind evidence-based obstetric surgical and anaesthetic practice and excellence in communication skills and patient safety. |
