DetailsBackground: The Directorate of Police Health Services is mandated to provide Medico-legal services in administration of justice among other services. This requires medical evidence and one way of achieving this is by conducting Postmortem examinations and presenting expert evidence in courts of law. A larger proportion of this work is being performed by the Doctors in the mainstream Health Sector and it has being realized the quality of the work is not to the required standards to secure successful prosecution. In order to address these gaps, there has been periodic capacity building training of Doctors of upcountry Health Facilities. Objective: • To train Drs in Postmortem examinations /techniques, writing standard reports, cases/ record management and court procedures. Participants; Doctors from , Kayunga Regional Referral and Iganga District Hospitals. Training contents • Postmortem examination and techniques • Identification of bodies • Postmortem report writing • Forensic specimen/evidence collection, management and chain of custody • Handling problem cases, sudden deaths, drowning, burns, decomposing bodies, poisoning, asphyxia deaths, Gunshot injuries, Perinatal deaths etc • Certification of deaths ( Writing of Death certificates) • Record Management • Court Procedures • Share experiences, challenges and recommendations.
